Course: Making with Form and Materials
Project: Waxed Canvas Tote Bag
Date: 2025, College SM
Timeline: One Month
Background: Making with Form and Materials is exactly what it sounds like, a fantastic class through which I was exposed to and trained to use all sorts of creative fabrication tools.
Objective: Using the large assortment of tools and materials to our disposal as Northeastern design students, create any practical object that you, as a user, would be happy to interact with on a long-term basis.
Product: For this open-ended project, I decided to tackle an ever-present issue in the life of a design student, the seemingly endless supply of small tools and general ephemera littering my otherwise organized school bags. To solve this issue, I created a simple yet sturdy tote bag, made using 10.1oz waxed canvas, 6oz cotton lining, and a Sailrite industrial sewing machine.
